Network of Innovative Schools

Since its establishment in 2022, the Network of Innovative Schools promotes sustainable tourism development and continued education opportunities for tourism educators and institutions by fostering international cooperation and knowledge exchange.

Through collaborative learning, joint initiatives, and continuous professional development, the network contributes to overcome barriers between education, skills development, and practical employment in the tourism and hospitality sector.

The Network activities are funded by the Austrian Development Agency.

Network Activities

Knowledge Exchange

The Network activities act as a structured international coordination and knowledge-exchange platform for hospitality and tourism schools. The initiative supports sustainable development, curriculum innovation, and industry relevance through regular institutional collaboration and strategic networking. It strengthens the academic network while ensuring that training programs respond to current labour market needs, sustainability trends, and regional tourism development priorities.

In July 2023, a meeting of the participating member institutions in Salzburg marked the start of live networking activities.

Masterclass/Short Courses

The Masterclass activities are short courses in Austria and in our member institutions for teachers from partner schools under the MoU network. Each year, up to 20 participants attend the program, which focuses on current trends and innovations in hospitality and tourism management.

The courses combine pedagogical and didactic training witht professional modules in tourism or hospitality management. The aim is to strengthen participants’ teaching competencies, curriculum design skills, and industry-relevant knowledge, enabling the trainers to transfer updated practices to their home institutions.

For the upcoming Short Courses, Austria will serve as the main training location due to the availability of industry experts and opportunities for field visits, that play a vital role in regional economies and the authenticity of tourism destinations.

In addition to the Austrian programs, short courses have also been organized at

  • International School of Tourism and Hotel Management (IST), Kathmandu, Nepal focusing on Culinary Arts (2023)
  • Bali Tourism Polytechnic, Indonesia (2024), focusing on Restaurant Management and Service.
